In the article "Netanyahu snubs takes relations with White House to a new low" published by CNN and written by Elise Labott and Jeremy Diamond, describes the growing tension between the White House and Israel's current Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Invited by House Speaker John Boehner to address a joint section of Congress in the spring, Netanyahu is slated to meet with Congress while in Washington, with no mention or intention of visiting the White House during his visit. Coming at the midst of sanctions with Iran and agreements between the United States and Israel, Obama has urged Netanyahu to not push for further sanctions against Iran, in an attempt to maintain the fragile balance of international agreement in terms of the country's nuclear program. Netanyahu's move could not have come at more complicated time, considering the upcoming Israeli elections and the country's overall need for support from the U.S. as Palestine continues to fight for independence. Although U.S. officials maintain that Israeli-American relations are still in good standing, numerous U.S. officials have expressed their discontent with the situation. Due to these actions on Netanyahu's behalf, the relationship between the U.S. and Israel is currently in flux.
In my opinion, the United States should not continue to express our support for Israel and Netanyahu, especially after this recent snub; I think that it is time to give Palestine a chance, since Israel and its leaders obviously do not care about the U.S. enough to give the country the time of day. However, I think that there needs to be some sort of cooperation and correspondence between U.S. government officials; Obama and his officials shouldn't have been blindsided by this arrangement arranged by Boehner.
